Harlow was found in an empty field, alone, unable to walk. At only 5 months old, can you imagine how scared she must have been, defenseless and injured left out in the elements?
She was picked up by animal control and sadly put on the euthanasia list due to her unknown injury. Harlow was so happy to be saved not understanding the fate animal control had for her. We heard about Harlow through an email we received and we just couldn’t fail her as others had.
Harlow was moved from animal control to a local vet just hours before she was due to die. We authorized the vet to run some tests to determine whether Harlow has internal injuries, if we could find a cause for her not using her back legs and to see if she could travel safely to our vet. The local vet has done some blood work, x-rays, fecal and exam so far as well as given her pain medications to keep her comfortable.
The x-rays show a sad story for little Harlow. She has suffered blunt force trauma to her spine so severe it has fractured her vertebrae causing her to lose the use of her back legs. Harlow will stay at the vet for a few days under observation and restriction. She is receiving pain medications and lots of rest. Harlow will meet with our team when she is ready to travel safely without causing her further pain and injury.
We don’t know how long she was left in that field alone and in pain but that is a story for her past. She will meet with our team of doctors and specialists when she is able to travel and we will help put together a treatment plan for her needs. At this time we don’t know if her injuries are permanent or not, but our goal is to help her heal.
Harlow has had a really bad start to life but we want to help her with her future. For that to happen we really need your help.
